Just curious if anyone has done work to their original radios. The one in mine works, but only with the tapes and not the tuner. I believe what the problem is whatever is hooked up to the tuner **** inside of the radio broke or became disconnected because you can turn the **** and it doesn’t change the channel. I would like to keep the original radio in the car, but if it's a lost cause to try and fix it myself or to pay an arm and a leg for someone to do it I would rather just put the money into a replacement deck. I saw the posting of them and they do look sharp.
Interesting... So did you get all new "guts" in your radio or did you end up replacing it?
i have an aftermarket radio in now and the stock one is just in a box so i thought about getting it fixed and get a price , the l.e.d for the clock a few are not working, but they don't work on the digital radios.
The good news is that the '79 radio is a generic GM radio of that era. Almost any GM radio of that era will fit. You may have to adapt the pigtail to match your harness, but that isn't too difficult as they were very simple radios compared to what is out there today.
These folks have a wide variety of radios for GM vehicles available, some of them are even pretty unique... http://www.corvetteradios.com/
