Default Keisler Install / Grommet Question

Hey guys
Just curious.....This rubber piece was on the output shaft of the transmission (TKO500).

Is this supposed to be removed completely or pushed in / left in when putting in the driveshaft?
Thanks
Shane

Shane, it can either be pushed in with the yoke or removed. If you remove it, just be careful you do not damage the seal in the tail shaft.

Any issue with cleaning it and putting it back in? WHen I have the car on my quicklift and then elevate the front the sycromesh leaks right out and that stuff isn't cheap.

I removed it when I did mine. If its out leave it out, you may do more damageto the seal, putting it back in. I was carefull on removal and did not damage the seal.

I just didn't like having that grommet in there for no reason.

Shane, install the yoke before you install the transmission. You have to disconnect the yoke from the drive shaft anyway. That will keep your fluid in the tranny. Just make sure you tie it in so that it won't slide back out if you happen to have the tranny tipped.

Trans has been in the car for the better part of two years.....A buddy saw the grommet, asked what it was and then said he thought I should have left it in.

In the middle of my winter projects and just trying to figure out if I should put this back in while I the car is up.
Thanks
Shane

Left mine out. Couldn't get the splined shaft in with it in place. Keisler says either way is OK.
