I looked at a nice survivor yesterday but had some alarm bells go off. There is not tank sticker (tank was replaced) so no proof of options. Engine pad matched but looked a little off. I'm certainly no expert on these though.
The one thing that I thought was wrong is that the car is supposed to be an L71, 435 HP car, which I think is right, but a tripower car, which I think is wrong. Wasn't the 69 435 HP a single, four barrel Holley?
Nope, only the 390 hp car was a 4bbl.................post some pics of the engine stamp. I would not be too thrown off by the gas tank.........how do the engine #s / dates match up with the build date?
if you are looking to buy a 69 435, you really need to do alot of research to confirm the car meets your requirements.. this forum is just full of buyers that state "after I got it home and was able to look at the numbers more closely, I found.....".
Know the difference between a pure authentic survivor and one that is questionable, especially price wise.. that car is probably a pretty penny.. do not pay original engine money for this car without really knowing what you are doing...

I will post stamp pics later.
Numbers match but I wasn't able to verify the dates (poor pics).
Not too concerned about the tank other than the build sheet being gone. As Joe pointed out, too much coin involved to roll the dice. Engine was recently rebuilt so I can't even use a lot of the clear signs that I'd normally use to verify authenticity.
Thanks all for your comments. I'd almost decided to walk away based on the "wrong" carb setup.
The 390 HP was a single 4 BBL Rochester
The 430 HP (L88) was a single 4 BBL Holly
The 435 HP was tri power, as was the 400 HP (but lots of internal differences there)

On a survivor , one of the best and most often overlooked clues is the emissions/tune-up sticker on the cowl. The 2-letter code will tell you the original engine. If this sticker is missing, not much of a survivor. If it is intact, it can give you some extra confidence if the code matches the engine. If a reproduction sticker, again, not much of a survivor and you can't tell if it is accurate.
Doc Rebuild's catalog has the repro stickers and the code key, so does Bizzoco's book. Mine is CN which I think is L88 and 435/auto only?
