I own a beautiful 72 BB, 4 speed. I've added the factory package for both PS and PB's that was available if ordered in 1972. What I find is that the PS is a bit light (quick) at hwy speeds.
I seem to remember from my street rod days that there were 2 ways of slowing down PS just a bit. One was to change the pully size on the pump and the second was some sort of adjustable valve that could be put in one of the lines and it allowed for the steering quickness to be adjusted.
Has anyone run into a similar situation and have knowledge that might help?
OOps forgot to say car is basicly in original configuration.
If you don't have a power steering you can adjust the steering ratio quite simply. Disconnect the tie rod from the steering arm. Move the tie rod end to the forward hole for a 17.46:1 ratio (fast ratio) or, the rear hole for a 20.2:1 ratio (standard ratio). You can't use the rear hole with power steering because you will have an interference.
In one positon when you turn the steering wheel a little the car turns a lot. In the other position when you turn the wheel a little the car turns less.
Is this what you mean by "light/quick?
