i'm putting my chasis back together on 68' frame off resto. just hung the steering box back on the frame, and was rotating it back and forth. seems to stick a little in one spot each time i turn it. i've never messed with the adjusting nut and screw before. where should this be set. is it possible that a little adjusting might smooth it out? could it need some lubricant? if so, what should i put in it? thanks! rick
Get in touch with Gary ( GTR1999) He will set you straight
He rebuilt mine to BETTER THAN NEW condition
But he can also answer any questions if thats all you need

Center high point
Does it appear to be "sticking" in the full straight ahaead position? There is a center high point that will seem to be 'tight' as you turn through it from both directions.
The Chassis Service Manual has the adjustment procedure for adjusting the gearbox. When I rebuilt mine (years ago), the big pain was setting the torque for the adjustment. I didn't have a good tool for setting 12 in lbs of torque as you rotate through the high point.
yes! it "sticks" a bit at about the mid point. maybe that's normal, and i don't have the steering column/wheel on it, so i am actually rotating it with the rag joint, so it probably seems tighter than it actually is....maybe nothing to worry about. rick
Rick,
It should not stick anywhere, not normal. Chances are it's over adjusted, along with poor bearings and dried out grease. Look at my thread on doing boxes and it will walk you through it. If the box is over-adjusted and run that way it will wear out the ends in short order and then they're wrecked.
The only correct way to set up the box is to use a 0-10 in/lb dial TW, forget the fish scale deal,a clicker TW, or any other method, if you want to do it right and possibly save those gears get the right TW.
