Default 1979 Spoiler Question

My 79 Corvette has a rear spoiler but no front spoiler. Is this possible from the factory? Or should it have both or nothing? Also is there a way to tell if they are original or have been added by someone. Thanks

The options list shows only "front & rear spoilers" so it would seem if they were factory they would be a set. A more '79 specific expert should chime in.... maybe someone with a '79 NCRS Judging Guide.

Someone probably just added the rear spoiler. Or, maybe the front was torn off. It happens.

Do you have any documentation?

I have a '79. My sales invoice shows RPO D80 - FRONT AND REAR SPOILER. This option became standard on '79 and was on the '78 Indy car. The spoilers accounted for a 15% reduction in aero drag so they are somewhat functional as well as asthetic. I don't know of any RPO that allows for the rear only.

My '79 tank sticker shows RPO D80 EXTENSION and D75 DEFLECTOR but I don't think you could order them separately.

As Vettebuyer says, it's easy enough to bolt one on. In fact I had a '77 once that someone had bolted a rear spoiler on but no front spoiler.

Well, technically the 78 Pace Car and the 79s with the D80 spoilers DID come from the factory with just the rear installed....the fronts being delivered in the rear compartment for the dealer to install in prep.
Apparently to avoid shipping damage.
But like already said, someone could have installed just the rear at some time in the last 30 years.

Thus two RPO's for internal purposes and one RPO for marketing purposes.

Not only does a C3 with only the front or rear appear unfinished IMHO, but since they are typically designed to work together as part of functional aero package it's usually a fundamental error to run with one without the other. No offense to those who may have overlooked this point, but it doesn't exactly tend to foster such a great impression to have missed it.

I bought the pace car front spoiler for my 73.

The body shop just finished repainting it and it is beautiful. I also bought an L88 hood for it. I may not put these aftermarket items on the car now since it looks so good.

The RPO was never a "standard option" on the '79. Many, many of us do not have spoilers on our '79s and like it that way very much.
