My wife and I are taking the vert to Carlisle this year (first timers) and I'm looking for some insight on the whole event.
1. We plan on trailering it down from Connecticut. I'm checking with some friends about a car carrier to tow behind the truck but haven't heard back from anybody yet. I checked with UHaul and they have some pretty good prices but the car will be exposed. does anybody have any recomendations on renting an enclosed trailer or one with a wind shield or something?
2. Any recomendations for hotels that will allow a truck with a trailer attached to park for the weekend?
3. We have reservations for the "fun field".. any suggestions on what to bring are welcome.
Thanks for all your input!
Why trailer it ? I drive mine there and am looking forward to this year.
Its a nice drive I live about ten minutes outside Danbury right off 84.
See you there.
If you can fit it,a fold up canopy is a great thing to have. It can get damn hot there. We usually caravan with several cars in our group, so we have the canopy, a coleman grille, and a cooler with adult type beverages split up btwn the cars. We stay at the Days Inn Carlisle, which I would imagine is booked solid, but they do have parking for car trailers, and I have noticed that a lot of other hotels accomodate them, so I would bet it's possible. No one in our group trailers theirs. I would say if your car is reliable enough, you should drive it, it will be a great adventure.
I am sure you will have a great time like other have said. I drive down from Maine each year - I will admit it is a much easier drive in a C5 but I have taken the C3 several times and I would think CT would be a decent drive. We stay at a great BB within walking distance (Jacobs Resting Place) but they generally are booked a year in advance. They do have plenty of room for a trailer and a nice pool that several of us meet at for a beverage. Cancelations do happen so you may check it out.
It does get very hot there so be sure to bring all of the sun protection stuff you may need as well as a rain poncho - it is rare that it doesn't rain at least one day. The “fun field” allows you to get in and have a decent parking place each day and there are some great back roads to explore in a C3.
CASH!Ya never know if you're gonna find something that you just can't live without.
And good walking shoes. I carried a GPS around in my back pocket one year and clocked over 7 miles in one day without hitting every row.

I think that the very least you could/should do is buy your other half a new Tremac for next Christmas!! - Buy it well in advance I'm talking about so she gets to enjoy it on the trip to Carlisle Eh!! Good Idea??
I have been going for over 20 years now and have never brought a car down. I want to bring one this year but I will also trailer it down. How do you get to park in the field? Do I call for a reservation our just show up? I know you ask why not drive it down. There are two reasons. 1 is I always buy parts when I go. And 2 I also bring stuff to sell. So I need my truck with me. I may just leave the car at the fair grounds and drive the truck back and forth to the room. Also this car would not be very nice for a 4 hour drive.
Thanks for all your input!! Me and the wife are really looking forward to this. I would love to drive the car down but I'm a little nervous about a 4 hour drive in a 35 year old car. I'm a little nervous about trailering a 35 year old car too!!!! I will be sure to bring shade, beverages and chairs... and lots of cash!!
Being from Florida, Carlise is a long ways a way; In 1998 I did make the trip. It was a pilgrimage for me, I have never seen so many Corvettes in one place in my life. It inspired me, I came home and starting planning for my frame off, I had a outstanding time, went to the plant as well. It was a trip I won’t soon forget, I envy you guys that live close. Have a good time

Do Showfield registration in advance on their website or else you'll probably be out of luck trying to do that when you arrive. It includes admission passes for two people as well for the weekend and a T-shirt. The more days you stay, the less expensive it seems.
I also recommend going to a sporting goods or runner's store and getting a glide stick for $8 or so. The insides of your legs can get painfully chafed with hours of walking when it's 90+ degrees out.

It's about a 5 hour drive from New Haven so figure a little more for you. Many trailer them down and leave them in the motel lots. Usually in town rooms are booked or way over-priced. Last year there were a lot of open vendor spots, this year the economy is worse you may find a room in town now.
I was in Club Corvette of CT the past 9 years, they always have groups drivng down from Wed -Friday. They also have rooms booked. They meet in Branford if you want to join them. www.clubcorvettect.com
