Racks have been and still are made by several manufacturers. Unless you can identify exactly who made yours and it still will be tough you will never match the tips.
Hate to tell you that.

It is my understanding that all original racks were made by the same company.
I allways thought that racks were a dealer option and thus what ever rack manufacturer ( and apparently there were several ) was close by was the one that they used ...
When I repainted my car I took the rusted rack off , filled in the holes , and drilled for new rack ....

No, GM used at lease 2 or 3 suppliers for racks. None of the racks were uniform. The spacing of the bars and the location of the mounting legs varried with each manufacturer. Lots of Vette owners have gotten in trouble by repainting a car that had a rack. Many people have bought a new rack after their car was painted, only to find that the mounting holes on the new rack don't line up with the old holes.
I think there are 2 companies reproducing racks today. I believe the currently available tips work with the most common original racks and both the reproductions.
