Default Will it fit?

Will a tire size P255/70R15 fit in the spare tire carrier of a 1980 vette? I need a new spare tire and was wondering if a full size tire will fit or if I need a space saver.

Thanks, Jimmy

Hey Jimmy, i just tried a 255/60/15 in an 80'.. No cigar on that one.. Too much rubber... as for yours with the 70 series it mite work.. you may have to pull one off your car and try it..

Why add the extra weight and bulk? IMHO, just replace the current space saver.

If you can't get a space saver just find the skinniest tire you can that is the same height. I don't think mine has ever been used. Only came down to add a little air to the old St. Louis air and to work on the rear suspension.

Your spare needs to be as tall as the rear tires, otherwise you could damage the rearend.
It doesn't have to as wide.

Thats the plan, just thought i'd check if anyone knew for sure that it would work.

Why add the extra weight and bulk?
Because my front tires are still good enough to be used as a spare.
