Hello all, I am thinking of upgrading my engine. Currently have a bone-stock 1980 L-48. How much HP/Trq can I throw at the 3 speed auto. I live at high altitude in Wyoming and was thinking of installing an engine with around 400 HP, will the tranny hold up? Not planning on doing any dragging, just want a fun daily driver that doesn't lose a stop-light confrontation with V6 Mustang. Thanks

I asked the same question before I started my engine rebuild. (my 1978 L48 with automatic)
I was shooting for 350HP
about 9/10 of the responses I got were that the TH350 tranny would hold up just nicely and "won't even begin to hurt it"
the other 1/10th also agreed but were mad I was messing with a numbers matching engine.
So I went ahead with the rebuild and I'm about 2 weeks away from getting her back on the road with the stock tranny!
I hope these guys knew what they were talking about
just kidding, these guys are the best!
