my 79 had been sitting awhile so i decided to try and start it. Of course, the battery is as dead as a door nail. Mind you i had the whole entire interior dash harness and engine harness replaced. So i went to charge the battery....(another long story for another day). It finally gets charged and i go to put the battery in and start it...get sidetracked and come back the next day and its completely dead again. Well i eventually get a jump and get it running. So basically i found out that the interior lights wont turn off when i close the door, and when i put in the keys and have the ignition turned to the On position, and i press the door jam switch the lights turn off. This makes me wonder if i have a ignition problem or something because even if i have the keys out of the ignition and i close the door or even just press the switch while the door is open, it wont turn off. Ah i just had a thought: what if it has something to do with that little orange box that sits behind the glove box on the passenger side? Any ideas or solutions are welcome, kinda dumb-founded right now
Make sure the headlight switch isn't turned full counter clockwise. This will keep your interior light on. Also check orange box and door pins. I have seen the leads touch metal and keep the light on. Just remember to pull the fuse at night until you resolve the problem and the battery will be fine.
i believe you can unplug it and jumper the two white wires together to just work off the door switches. i may be wrong, someone posted once on how to bypass it., to see if that solves your problem. i tried searching it but the search engine, has thrown a rod, doesnt work worth crap.
I had the same problem, this is a problem usually when an extra ground is hitting the light housing, check the small light holdings that hold the door lights. Hope i explained it right
It quite certainly has to do with the "orange box" It's the timer for the lights to keep them lit 20 secs (I believe it was) after you close the doors. You can connect the two white wires together on the plug and the lights will work, simply without the timer. I had the same thing on my 79 and I'm probably not going to order the timer this Summer.
