there was a decal on the front of my E1979 brake booster i can just barely see residue from what used to be there. does anyone have a pic of what it said or looked like? or possibly where to purchase one
The only decal I remember ever seeing on a booster was the emissions and timing decal. I know from at least 1976 forward they were on the booster. They are are available from just about every major vendor, and probably cost around four or five dollars. On the older C-3s the decal was not on the booster but was located on the flat surface on the firewall immediately behind the booster.
Ok, well I guess you really are an expert and didn't need any help after all. Best of luck to you.
Ha-- no expert at all. Just want to show for others who may have the question... that i THINK.....I THINK this is it. and that it APPEARS your info was incorrect. no harm no foul.

The Emissions/Timing Decal on my '77 is located on the flat surface on the firewall immediately behind the booster. I see no evidence of any decal/sticker ON the booster.

As what you found states, that label contained the broadcast code ("RL" for 79, I believe) and a julien date. The dating consisted of 4 numbers, the first number indicating the last digit of the year and the other 3 the julian dating. The broadcast code and julian date were also found stamped across the top of the booster, running front to back. These labels were used on all 78-82's. I have pictures of my 81 when I brought it home, and the label is clearly visable. Today there is still a shadow where this label was located, but the label itself disappeared early on in the car's life. I don't know of any source for these as a reprint or repro, though I've toyed with the idea of recreating mine using the computer and label paper. If you try this, remember that the date and code stamped in the booster matched the date and code on the label.
As far as the comments above about the emission label being on the booster, I believe that this only applied to 76, but maybe 77 also. Prior to 76, power brakes were an option, so not all Vettes had a booster. For 68-75, the label was placed on the flat area of the firewall above the master cylinder, not on the booster. Though still listed as an option in 76, I believe they were a mandatory option in that all 76's had power brakes, the emission label was moved to the booster that year. I don't recall whether the label was on the booster or back on the firewall in 77, but for 78 & 79, the emission label was definately retured to the flat spot on the firewall, above the master cylinder. 79 also had a second label showing the routing of the emission vacuum hoses attached to the drivers side of the underside of the hood. For 80-82, the emission label and vacuum hose label were combined on one label and mounted to the underside of the hood.
reproduction is not a problem. as i have a vinyl shop to do all this type of work in. i just needed to know what it looked like, color wise and what letters were on it. i can now look at the booster itself for the proper codes and measure it out from what used to be there before. dirty it up and "wear" it out a little and it looks 30 years old again!!

The original label was paper. As you said, you can get the dimensions from the outline left on your booster. As far as the type face, it was a bold type in black ink on white paper. It was a basic block letter. If you have access to a type face guide, I'd say it was probably "Helvetica Bold", or a similar type face.
Let us know how it comes out, you might have a market on the forum to make more, from a couple of other members!

I just made one on my computer - took less than 30 seconds. Let me know your year and Julian date stamped on the top of your Brake booster. Don't know how to post what I made since it's on my computer, not internet.
we are talking about the Power Brake booster paper Bar code sticker not emissions decals. The 1981 is "NR" followed by four digits indicating year (1) and 3 digit Julian code for day manufactured in 1981. These were paper tags that fall off due to engine heat and nobody makes reproduction stickers.
