Default AC Fan not working

My 82 corvette was in storage for about a year and a half and and the AC/Heater fan seems to have quit working. I pulled the switch and checked it with an Ohm meter and the switch appears to be working. On the back of the switch, one of the lines has a strong vacuum present. If someone can point me in the right direction to diagnose this problem I would greatly appreciate it.

Second issue, during this same time, my wipers quit working. I've checked all of my fuses and they checked out good.

Thanks in advance,

Ok, I pulled most of the pieces/covers on the dash but did not find where to check to see if I am getting power directly to the AC fan motor. Can anyone please point me in a direction regarding where i can find access to the motor or the hot powere wires going directly to it?

Thank you so much for any suggestions / help,

John

There is a relay on top of the a/c box that can go bad. Usually you only have high when that happens. I assume you have checked fuses and obvious wiring?

Yep, there is a blower motor resistor http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...0&dept_id=1683
that goes bad. That is exactly what happened to my 82.

Default Thanks for the response, what should I do to check it?

Thank you both soooo much for the help. This has been a bit of a puzzle for me.

To help diagnose... The fan never works regardless of any settings on the AC control panel. I do have good vaccuum going into the control. Would this mean it isn't the relay that leaves causes it to blow high all the time or should I still check it somehow.

How do I check these two before purchasing the part?

Again, I can't thank you both enough for the help!

Default still not working, please help

I found the resistor and it looked almost like new when I pulled it out. Doesn't appear to be bad. The wires are hot going to it with only one changing when the switch is moved from low to high.

I've checked all of the fuses and they are good. there is another plug above it that has all of the wires hot as well. It is a small rectangle with the plug going into it from the bottom. It is screwed to a plastic housing right above the resistor. Is that the relay? How can I check to see if I am getting power directly to the blower motor?

Thanks again for any help you can provide. Not sure where else to look?

Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

Default It is a ground wire, anyone know where it ends?

I found the problem for both my wiper and AC fan. It appears to be a bad ground wire. The wire is a single line female end that plugs into the bottom of the windshield wiper motor. I traced it as much as possible but lose it when it routes back around to the fuse block in the engine compartment of the firewall. Does anyone know where this wire terminates? Is it a ground or is it the delay power for the wiper? when I ground it both the wipers and AC fan work. I ran a jumper temporarily but would prefer to fix the real issue instead of putting a band aid on it.

Thanks for all the help,

John

Yes Sir; that ground wire goes to the bell housing, it is also the ground to the radio, There is another one on the metal below the driver door, but that is to another bunch of things,, I would clean all the grounds an reinstall same. The one to the battery is on the frame, and you have some more on the tail light system. Lots of luck Doctorgene

Default Thanks!

Thanks a million Doctorgene! I will see if I can track it down this weekend. That's a huge help! Is it the ground for the AC fan as well or is it just completing a ground somewhere else that made it start working?

Thanks again,

John

Hey guy, The corvette is grounded at several different places. Battery to frame is the main one, than there several other points that you have to find to clean. But at each pcs. like the heater control, the radio and the alarm system along with the heater motor have a connection that should be cleaned as well as the lead at the bellhousing, for that group. ea. group has a different place that needs to be cleaned. along with the fuse panel. Try and find a used Corvette Shop Manual they have all the points or Helm 1-800-782-4356 they are the original guys that printed the manual up for G. M. Sorry that I can't be of more help. Isn't the Forum great? have a great one. Doctorgene

Sorry I should tell you, All the black wires are grounds. follow them everywhere they touch the frame or body shell clean and replace, check that they work and coat with clear paint that way they will stay a long time.. Doctorgene
