Am thinking of replacing my factoy 4speed shifter and linkage and installing a Hurst 4speed shifter and linkage. Would there be that much difference in the quality and reliabilty on the performance of such a swap? I do not know, would like to hear from guys that have done such a swap. I already have the Hurst set up for my 73. M21 4.11 550+ HP on the motor. Thanks

Reason: spelling
If you think you might ever do any serious shifting, get the HURST Competition Plus. Adjust the gear stops per the instructions. The original shifter is not up to repeated hard shifting. And the gear stops prevent you from "overtravelling" the synchro rings and stretching them, so they live too.
The Hurst is the only way to go. If you want to keep the stock appearence, spend the extra $89.00 and by the stock appearing shifter that bolts to the Hurst linkage. This is the best of both worlds, it looks like a stock shifter, but you can actually enjoy shifting it!
I need some edumacation- if, on a scale of 1 to 10 Hurst is a 3? What else is there that's available for a Muncie trans that will fit in the stock location on a C-3? I'm all ears here. I've been using Hurst for close to 40 years. If there's something better, I'd like to know, cause I'll be spending some bucks soon!

I do have the stock looking shifter. Thanks for all of the positive replies from you guys that own and shift with the Hurst. I will be joining you pretty soon.
I don't know about any of you guys but my factory shifter used to hit the shifter plate on 1 and 3 shifts. The Hurst with the factory look handle doesn't even come close.
And it feels so tight (vs. sloppy) and accurate you'd never want to go back.
I rebuilt my original shifter for the next owner, not myself.
I had one offered to me and installed free of charge and never took George up on it at one of the 'Indy' Nationals for my 62. They may have improved over time, but I never liked them. And yes I know they became OEM on some Pontiacs and Olds pieces....
