Default 1980 body mounts

ok after looking at these today, it appears that there is no way to get them out unless you lift the entire body off the frame? Is this correct or is there a way to do this I am thinking i have bit off more than i should of with this vette? This pisses me off, there is nothing easy about these cars.

Grumpy - you don't have to remove the body to change the mounts. Send me a PM with your email address and I will send you and article I scanned from one of the popular Corvette rags. Great step by step directions (with pictures)

I used their process on my 76 & 78 Vettes with great results.

Ok how do you get this one out? Pass rear. The nut is spinning so now what has to come apart to replace it?

the nut is spinning in the cage nut, you are in big trouble, the only way the get the bolt out will be to cut it, and you must repair or change the cage nut before istall the new one.
dont know if you will be able to lift hight enought to do it without lifting
the entire body

I will have to cut it 2 times i think once to get the head off, then again to shorten it after i pull the bushings off.

Hi, Do a search on the forum, on body mounts. There are several great posts on this.

For #3 mount acess you need to cut the panel near the top where there is an indent, then down the sides. You can then have a good view of the mount. You can also jam the nut to stop it from spinning. Also makes it simple to install new mounts.

My Bad 79, member has great photo's. I have a copy if you can't find the post.

Hi, The pic that was posted, about 2" above the opening cut horizontally. Then cut down both side to the bottom. You will need to do this to have access to the mount. It can be easily installed back in place with epoxy and some cloth. send me PM i will send you a copy of the pic's I mentioned previously.

Ok 6 out 2 to go. Just the ones in the kick panels. Any ideas? before i get on those.

Here are the pics of what i had to cut off the body to get the #3&6 mounts out one side came out the other had to have the bolt cut twice.

BEFORE

After cutting body.

I am assuming that after all the bolts are out, i can lift the body 3-4 inches per side to get these bastards out right?
