Front Main Seal Leak Question
Woke up yesterday to a major front main seal leak and I believe its due to the cheap chrome timing chain cover than was installed by the previous owner. I just ordered a higher grade cover and higher quailty one-piece oil pan gasket and wanted to know if this can be replaced without pulling or lifiting the motor? Its a 327 and I see some steering linkage under the oil pan..
Since I have the timing cover off I also ordered a noisy gear drive too

Yes it can come off. Drop the idler arm and the steering linkage will sag a little. This will give you plenty of clearance to remove the oil pan. Yes the chrome cheapie timing covers will leak. The one piece gaskets are the way to go.
Gear drives are noisy and a waste of good dollars on your motor. A good double roller timing chain is a much better option.
