Default ZR1 question?

Theres a 72 on Fleabay that seems abit odd,Im sure its been mentioned here. The car has the LT-1 option but states it also has the ZR1 motor, wouldn't that make the car a ZR1 or is this car your basic Fleabay prize? Shouldn't a C3 ZR1 be well over $50,000 even in this economy? My apologies if this has been discussed before.

ZR1 is performance package, not a engine package, so basically a ZR1 engine is nothing but a regular LT1 engine.

The '70-'72 ZR1 option was listed as "Special Purpose 370 hp Engine Package." Ordering the package precluded the ability to order any comfort or convenience options, sans leather deluxe interior and tilt tele wheel. That said, if you see any Corvette claiming to be a ZR1 with PW, PS, rear defrost, radio or AC, there's no way it was a ZR1.

The ZR1 engine was basically the same as the standard issue LT1's that were built between '70 & '72. The difference was the ZR1 used the smaller diameter L88 flywheel/clutch combo, as well as a high-torque L88 starter. This also required the 403 bell housing. The ZR1 engines used a separate suffix code to call-out these differences when the engine was assembled.

Other racing-oriented bits required as part of the ZR1 Special Purpose Engine Package were: F41 springs & shocks, HD Aluminum Radiator with overflow tank, J56 Special purpose brake system, M22 Muncie Trans, HD rear positraction unit, and base-motor type metal fan shrouds in '70 & 71. '72 did not us a fan shroud as a way to discourage stop&go street driving.

Best and most succinct way to describe a C3 ZR1 is as an L88 chassis with an LT1 engine.

Dan is a virtual encyclopedia when it comes to C3/ZR1's.
