You need to talk to a local paint jobber(supplier).

His recommendation will be to use a sole supplier paint system.
Following this rule will give you a better chance of primer/paint/clear coat compatibility, leading to a quality paint job.

Use a urethane 2k primer, also known as an epoxy primer because it uses 2 parts (a catalyst). The 2k will build thicker which will allow you to smooth out the imperfections better. You can sand dry or wet. General colors are tan and grey ...but there are other colors. I used grey on mine as it matched the original, but over the years, I've used both and they both work fine. The brand of primer does not necessarily need to be the same as the paint you plan to spray, but if you stick to one company's system you may have reducers you use for the primer that may also be used for the sealer or base/clear ...which could save some $$ on material. I used Nason (by DuPont) primer on my vette. I've used it on lots of vehicles over the yrs. Find a supplier that's local and you feel comfortable working with (and will work with you). I would refrain from buying anything that you have to order or can't get locally. Best of luck,

Mark G

spi epoxy is one of the best. i have yet to hear anyone complain about it. the owner of the company puts his cell phone number on the cans and is a vette guy also. check the paint and body section and read the results from guys that have used it.
