Here's my story. My 79 wouldn't start(It sat all winter) I put the battery charger on it, let it go for 20 min. or so. Got in the car and started it. After it started, I noticed the GEN light on. The volt meter was pegged all the way to the left.I checked all fuses, they were fine. I shut the car off, put the charger away. And the next day the car was dead, nothing. The dome light wouldn't even come on. Any ideas where I should start? HELP please! If you live near Sylvania, OH I'll buy the beer. THANKS
I've been through that several times in various vehicles. Sounds like your battery may be totally dead and unable to hold a charge. You might take the battery to a shop and have it checked out.

Have your alternator tested. Did you have the battery tested? It's been my experience that when one of them goes, it tends to take the other with it. Also, check your ground locations are clean and making good contact.

I also like to keep an extra voltage regulator (along with a spare ignition module) in the tool bag in my car. They're cheap and easy to replace. As Ak Mal said, check your grounds, check your battery cables, and if still nothing grab a toothpick, pull your alternator, and try replacing your regulator. Don't grease the rear bearing in the alternator case. You'll need the toothpick to hold the brushes in place when re-assembling the alternator.
