Default block # question

my 72 has the right casting # on block and the correct #s on front with the vin. at garage today where i was getting it worked a guy there told me the motor was from a 73 because on the opposite side from where casting # is there is a # that says f12 72. how could this be with casing # and so on being correct? is he right? also my build date is 7-72.

Take pictures of your pad stamp and post. Take pictures of the "casting date, and post"

could be I (maybe March) 2 1972, could be 1 (January) 2 1972, lots of possibilities.

What is your VIN, what is your alphanumeric code from your trim tag. All of these things come into play.

I think the first letter, f, is the month. If A is January, F is June. June 12, 1972 would be about right for your July car.

f 12 72 is the casting date for your block. f = june , so a june 72 cast date on the engine with a july 72 build date for the car.. sounds ok to me..

Better find a new mechanic that knows what he's talking about.

Numbers sound fine.
my 72 block is cast F-8-72, stamped T0610CSS, 2 days later.
