who here has soda blasted their car? What is involved in it? is it safe for the glass and chrome, or do you have to mask everything off, i am starting the paint prep process, and am curious?
I've had cars media blasted (plastic beads) and Soda Blasted. Glass can be covered but I would remove all trim and chrome. I would also not do it with the engine in, or anything for that matter. This stuff gets everywhere and is messy no matter what you do.
It will depend on who does the work (get references) as to what the end result will look like. Some get carried away and think they have to remove every last but of original primer. I'd rather leave a little primer to sand down than tear up the fiberglass.
Bowerss2,
May help to read the last entry in a previous posting (What Methods Of Paint Stripping). Should be right under this one. Just covered this exact subject with concerns.

I can tell you from first hand experience, that soda blasting can ruin the fiberglass finish. I had it done and apparently the paint hardness was difficult to get off, along with the primer and the blaster used too much pressure and completely moon cratered my surface, it cost an incredible amount of money to restore the finish back to factory after having it soda blasted by a reputable firm. Never, ever again.
