Too bad but official numbers doesn´t tell this.
From a total of 30464 cars in 1973 (25521 Coupe´s and 4943 Convertible´s) there was 4412 built with the LS4 option and 5710 was built with the L82 engine but there are no way to tell how many L82´s was put into Coupe´s and how many was put into Vert´s...
The factory was not thorough enough when they wrote the record over these years, a lot of other holes are left, too bad for us interested in these cars.
Enjoy the facts and figures, please have patience with the swedish words that was put in there by me without thinking of an
possible international publication....
Hello lilypad- I'm fairly new to the forum but I've got a 73 L82 4-speed coupe w/leather, PS, PB and AC. It's yellow over black. There are several web sites that will give you the production figures for the 73 model year as well as the numbers for the various options sold. I used percentages for the options and extrapolated some numbers for my car. I'll go out on the proverbial limb and say there were around 400 cars produced with the same set-up as mine. This is "ballpark" math but it will give you a flavor for what you have. There were no figures for how many cars were painted what, but if you look at earlier and later years that did list the numbers, you can again extrapolate approximately how many yellow cars were produced.
So, with all this said, I came up with a figure of around 50 cars like mine. I'm guessing that's low but again, it puts me in the ballpark. In your case, a yellow L82 Vert is a MUCH rarer care. If it's a 4-speed, it's even more unique regardless of what color it is. Yellow was a popular color for the GM promo shots and road tests, but when you came right down to it, very few people or dealerships ordered yellow cars. Mine was special ordered by the original owner and the dealer asked him if he was sure he wanted yellow!
Anyway, for $5300, you have a rare car at a very cheap price. Good luck with it! Jeff
Thanks, the car sure seems in pretty good shape for the price. I am taking pride in trying to bring this car back as close to original as possible, It doesnt have doc but the odometer says 89000 and the guy who had it reposesed (I looked him up) says he had owened it since 75 and those are original miles. thanks again for your help.
Back then Chevy was not producing classic cars, they were producing new cars to sell to the public. They did not care about keeping records for future collector car freaks, they kept numbers to help them prepare for the next model year. So all that matter was how many L82 were sold, not what body they went into. The tracking was to plan for the next years production.
So here we are 36 years later trying to figure out how many of what was produced and in what combo. All that we can do is run the numbers and get an average.

The guy that had it since 1975? Can't help but wonder what he paid for it. After 34 years of car payments, and still did'nt have it paid for. Must have been a sad day in his life to get it "repoed". Happy for you though, welcome to the one year only 73 corvette body club.

Welcome to a world of knowledge about C3`s
He probably used it as collateral against the 65 inch plasma in his theater room, in his Mc mansion.

Chevy did keep track of the coupe/convertible engine and option count back in the day and
if you would have written to GM corporate at that time, they would have told you. Now,
that information seems to be lost except for a couple years, namely 72 and 75.
