Caliper removal 1981

Hi,

I am trying to remove the calipers on my 81 vette. The bolts are stuck. I have tried to remove them with a socket and 18" bar, they won't move. soaked them in lub. no luck. Would an impact driver help lossen them. Help

They're rust welded. Bang on the socket a little with a hammer while someone else puts torque on the breaker bar, and they might pop loose.

put a pipe on the breaker bar for even greater leverage, the worst that could happen is the head of the bolt snaps off!!!! (unlikely)

I had the same problem with my 81, I went to Lowe's and bought an impact wrench. They came right off.

+ 1 for the impact wrench.

Get one with some power to it though.

An impact will do it but make sure you use an impact socket six point , a chrome one may brake , wear safety glasses too! Ron
