Default Wrong wiring harness

I am in the process of replacing the dash harness on my 75 and ran into a problem. After several wrong wiring harnesses came to my house it was determined that the harness was from a 74. The engine bulkhead connector was the right one for a 74. The car is titled as a 75,,, is this possible?

Check the VIN number. The 6th digit is the model year (4=1974)

Yes i checked that,,, it says 1975. If it is an early 75 could they have used leftover parts from 74?

Could be, back in those days, GM did a lot of strange things.

Default Left over parts???

Gary,
I doubt that, and here's why. The 1974 had a mechanical tach and a non-HEI distributor that had a ballast resistor in the wiring loom. The 1975 model had both a non-tach drive HEI distributor AND an electric tach. The HEI uses a single 12 volt source from the ignition switch with no ballast resistor and the tach requires a signal wire from the HEI unit.

Therefore, a '75 car could not run with a '74 wiring loom. If a leftover '74 loom had somehow found itself paired with the car on the '75 production line, the assembly line workers would not be able to connect some of the fittings and would call a supervisor who would rectify the problem.

Look elsewhere.
