My 78 needs to have the steering column restored. Any Forum members know someone who does this type of work? I have also looked at the Flaming River units and the Ididit units also. Has any Forum member used either of these 2 aftermarket guys in their C3 yet? The aftermarket units are tilt and come in just under the $400.00 mark. The units I seen where chrome or black powdercoated and were supposed to be a direct replacement for the stock items. TIA, houstonvett
I don't think the aftermarket columns are energy absorbing columns. In other words if your chest hits the wheel in an accident you will crush your chest instead of telescoping in the column to absorb the energy.
I was looking into these three places over the winter but in the end I decided to rebuild it myself. I saved a ton of money and the column was rebuilt from top to bottom.
08vycpe My Thanks to you for the great links. I will be checking them out for sure. It does look like the aftermarket columns aren't energy absorbable as you stated. Seems silly for the column not to have that important feature. Looks like another rebuild will be in the works, Thanks again 08vycpe for the help, houstonvett
