I will be replacing tires (15") and shocks on an 82 and my main concern is obtaining as smooth of ride as possible. What combination of tires and shocks would you recommend?
There are not that many tires out there for your car that are going to change the ride a whole lot...stick with Bridgestone or Goodyear...as far as shocks go save your money and buy AC Delco shocks...keep in mind this is a sports cars, not a luxury car so the ride is never going to be "smooth".
If your car has stock suspension on it than I would go with AC Delco shocks and a set of Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's. They are every quiet riding and have as comfortable of a ride as a Corvette can have. I have these tires on mine and I'm extremely happy with them. Keep in mind that your Corvette is a sports car, not a luxury car and doesn't have luxury car suspension, so don't expect it to ride like one.
I use monroe sensatracs a lot, they have valving in them that make them softer on smooth road surface and they stiffen up when needed on rough surface. The tire pressure on the tire sidewall is the MAX pressure! You can come down with that for smoother less firm ride. and of course I have to say "Fly with Eagles!"
