lights in AC?

lights in AC?

are there lights inside the AC controls on a 81? I see the light from the top of the dash going down, but it is hard to see it with no back lights.

Nope, only the light from above. The original bulb used in the top of the gauge bezel had a "lens" or magnifing end on it. This end caused the light to be directed toward the controls, as opposed a regular bulb that just has a clear end, that allows the light to disapate some. Though better than a regular bulb, it still didn't do alot to light the controls. I haven't been able to locate any of the correct bulbs lately.

A colored bulb can be added underneath console.

Surly not! Our beloved GM would never do something like that to save 7 cents per car on the assembly line.

Yep, and they did it again in 2008. I have a Chevy HHR and there is an LED in the ceiling that shines down on the window controls mounted in the console.
