Default '74 Convertible Silver Leather Interior

My 1974 Convertible has factory leather SILVER interior. (407)

In 74 they made 5,474 convertibles and the also made 2,797 with the optional leather interior. How do I find out how many of the convertibles came with the silver leather option 407??

Thanx in advance.

Steve

My '74 coupe has silver leather also. [I] have never seen a number listed for 74's. Was also told on this forum that no #'s for '74 were kept. I'd like to know also!

There are no numbers kept by GM or anyone else that list specific combos, like Red car silver int and convertible. Steve, the best thing you can do is estimate. Take how many Verts and how many silver interiors and try to do the math. It won't be exact but you will probably get an idea that it is a fairly rare combo.

MAYBERRY and I have made a concerted effort to collect VIN numbers for '74 Corvettes whenever and wherever we can find them - to date - we have collected 71 of the purported 300 1974 LS4 Convertibles that were made...

along the way - we also have collected many other VINS....

If you would like to know how many 74's were made with SILVER Leather of the KNOWN cars...that would be the place to start....

by the way....I myself own one with silver leather!

Where are you tracking this info? I have a '74 LS4.

How was the number of 300 '74 LS4 Verts built derived? I was wondering this as you see a lot of BB 68-72 manual trans verts for sale all the time on ebay, but it is rare to come across a '73-'74.

So I found this website: http://www.web-cars.com/corvette/opt...ptionyear=1974

It has the number of big blocks sold each year, then it has the total percentage of all the cars that were convertibles and automatics. I assumed, of course, that if the car was not an automatic it was a manual.

So assuming that the percentage of verts and manuals for all the cars was also true of the BB cars, I came up with the following table:

Year -----BB -----Auto % -Manual % -Convertible % -Manual BB -Vert BB -Man BB Vert
1974 -----3494 -----67%------ 33%------ 15%-------- 1,153 -----524 -----172
1973 -----4412 -----59%------ 41%------ 16%-------- 1,809 -----705 -----289
1972 -----3913 -----54%------ 46%------ 24%-------- 1,800 -----939 -----431
1971 -----5285 -----46%------ 54%------ 33%-------- 2,854 -----1744 -----941
1970 -----4473 -----29%------ 71%------ 38%-------- 3,176 -----1699 -----1206
1969 -----15441 -----21%------ 79%------ 43%-------- 12,198 -----6639 -----5245
1968 -----12627 -----18%------ 82%------ 65%-------- 10,354 -----8207 -----6730

Using the reasonable assumptions, there were only 173 '74 454 Vert 4-Speeds built, but there were over 6700 '68 BB Vert 4-Speeds built!! If I start with the 300 you have, then the number is much lower.

Thanks.

The best you can come up with is a ball park figure.

It's "mayberg" on the forum here.

Where are you tracking this info? I have a '74 LS4.
Right now, it's on my home PC (don't worry, it's backed up) in a spreadsheet. See my sig - please send me your info, and let me know your questions. I'll answer as best I can.

I think there's more big-block convertibles with x option than you might calculate, since options would tend to "gravitate" as opposed to being equally distributed. An analysis of the numbers I have - around 10% of convertibles and 10% of big-blocks would confirm this, but let me know your query anyway.

Is the dash pad on your silver interiors the same as the seats or is it a darker color, almost grey?

Mine was a little bit darker color on my 75, almost gray. When I did an interior restoration I made it match all the rest of the silver interior in the car and now I get the glare on the windshield. I wish I would have left it alone now.

Here is my 74. I would be interested in seeing your collection of 74 data. If you are interested, I can PM my VIN. It is a base model car that had an automatic. Nothing fancy.

....my Silver/Silver Leather '75 coupe's original dash is also a "darker gray" than the rest of the Silver interior.
