just changed heater core on my 81 and really it wasn't that bad of a job once i got started. during the process i found out the pad under the carpet is saturated with antifreeze. any good suggestions on how to clean this up would be appriciated. would newspaper work to absorb most of the antifreeze???? thanks. namvet
A Shamwow, of course. Put it on the spill, turn it over, without even putting any pressure, 50% of the antifreeze, right there.
But seriously, something like newspaper to soak up as much as it as possible and then perhaps pull the seat and let a dehumidifier or heater sit in there for a bit to dry it out
I would pull the seat and remove the carpet and pad and flush it out thoroughly with a hose.
Hang it over the fence to air dry.
Front carpet in an 81 isn't glued anywhere, will come out pretty easy.
I lived with the odor and gummy feeling with my 78SA's carpet for years before finally removing and flushing it out.
Antifreeze removed some of the color from the carpet when I flushed it. Spot redyed it and it feels like brand new now. The jute backing on the carpet felt clean again, too.
