Default Original engine?

1978, Silver Anniversary

I'm trying to see if it's the original engine. Where can I find the block numbers?

I did find some on the front left by the water pump. They didn't make sense to me. I want to add some muscle, if it's the original engine I'll rethink this.

Very front of block on top, passenger side - two numbers, one's the partial VIN.

Interesting subject, numbers matching.. When most of the performance engined Vettes were new there was no NCRS and who cared anyway..I would estimate that the only cars that would possibly be the same engine Vettes as produced are those that were low performance hydraulic cammed engine equipped ones. The performance engined cars were those that had different numbers because of breakage and the quest for even more HP by engine transplants. Back then you brake or broke something the junk yard, dealer, or speed shop provided the non matching engine parts found on so many Vettes. There were exceptions but certainly I feel not the norm for all the performance cars to have its 'correct' numbers... Otherwise why all the re-stamping of old worn out engines. And some of those go into the low HP cars too. The new phenomenon, 'Resto Vettes' made from non matching new and old nearly everything....

This is where.

This is a 1979 but the same location as the 1978.
