My car is almost finished to where I want it, after 2 years of workin on it, but one thing is killing me about it, the bad door gaps, any advice on the best way to fix this?
pretty much the same on both sides and looks worse in person, is it me or what? bugs the crap outta me!
Rear of the door looks fine, but a little difficult to see. I suspect the doghouse might be down a little at the front which is causing the gap along the upper front. Gently jack the nose a little and see if the gaps begin to close up. If so, you will want to rebond the trailing edges of the front fenders.
You know, the first thing that catches my eye when I see a car like that is . . . . . . the door gaps.
My advice: you are hopelessly **** about your Corvette. Sell it to me immediately for $1 and you will be cured. I'm sorry, but it's the only way.
All that having been said, can you post some closer pictures of both gaps on both doors? If the rear gaps are exactly the way you want them, and the fronts are too narrow at the bottom and too wide at the top, I am afraid Easy Mike's solution is the only one I can think of. It is also a solution that I would not tackle myself, and would hire an experienced body man to handle, so if I could adjust them to be at least acceptable, that is the road I would go down first.
This is probably the last thing you wnat to see now that you have your car in colour, but the gap adjustment I was faced with was to build up the fender edge to close the gap.
My car also suffered from poor factory fit-up primarily on the passenger side. I had to add about 1" of resin/cloth to the edge and sculpt it to the shape/fit needed.
Hopefully the adjustments mentioned above will cure the problem for you. If not, either live with it or bite the bullet and reshape the fender.
