Ive see people with shields on their AC unit under the hood, mine will randomly spew crap up on the underside of the hood, right in line with the pulley, does anyone have a picture of the shield off the unit and how to attach it? or how could I fix my problem?

Miles, I have one that I will take a pic of in a bit and upload for you. It attaches to the 2 nuts on the back of the bracket that is mounted to the front of the compressor.
I took it off because it did not fit in the relief area of my hood and was cutting into the fiberglass.

PS here are the pics"
On the bottom pic you can see where the pulley rubbed on the shield after I tried to make it sit lower and not hit the hood.

so it hit your hood then ?
whats a alternative if this hits the hood ?
because i need one
I'm not aware of an alternative. I was going to take a band saw to this one and make it fit inside the relief.
It's just the part that curves down that needs modification to fit under the outer hood frame. The rest of it clears because it is under the hood skin.

mine is converted to 134 and i have them and it took about a year for them to devlop
i was told to wipe the bottom of the hood after i drive with precleano(wax and grease remover for painting cars) so it dosent get any worse and that theres no way to get the oil out of my hood now
miles, i was thinking about getting one too. if you had one do you think it would have protected the hood or would the belt have gotten oil elsewhere? also kinda makes me wish i still had the insulation under hood to protect it.

So, here's a thought, rather than put a shield on the compressor you could put something on the underside of the hood. Like that stickyback insulation but paint it black first.
Yes, I've heard that once the oil soaks into the fiberglass there's no chance of repair.

nutsy, it's not the belt that's doing it, it's the clutch. I would guess that it throws it in a complete circle so there's probably a line across the bottom of the hood from one side to the other.

Thanks for the pics!!!
theres a line about a foot long right above the belt, luckily it doesn't go all the way across!
has anyone made their own? how much was the one posted above, if you dont mind me asking, and what year was it on that rubbed against the hood? would a 74 350 have any more clearance?

Miles, it was $34.00 plus shipping off of ebay. My car is a 72 but I have no idea if your hood has any more clearance in the relief area than mine.
The relief area is specifically for the A/C pulley and belt on my car. It measures just under 3.75 inches from point to point but they angle inward. The shield measures 4 inches across.
I was also thinking that it might be better and less expensive to put something on the underside of the hood. I was thinking of using the same fastener buttons used to hold the hood blanket to the hood and just putting a flat black painted piece of sheet metal against the underside of the hood.

Big Blocks have no hood blanket so I'll have to come up with something different. There aren't any holes for the fasteners either.
I'll try trimming about 3/4 inch off the shield first and see how that goes.

that answers my question about where my holes went for the blanket. i have a BB too. i thought with the BB hood we would have more clearance but i guess not. when these leak is it only when air is on or when they go bad do they leak all the time?

These buttons use adhesive to secure them to the underside of the hood. Then you just install the other piece through mounting holes in the protective plate. If you don't have a hood insulator and want one, you cound do both at the same time.

nutsy, the compressor runs when the heat is on also as well as the defroster.
As I understand it, it is only a problem when the clutch is engaged but I could be wrong.

I would be cautious. You will need to remove all paint where the retainers go and use an adhesive that won't let go if you need to remove the pins for any reason.
They make some really good adhesive these days but I was never able to find one that wouldn't let go when I attached my trunk lid liner on my C5.
The fact that it hangs down and the weight of the liner was constantly pulling on the adhesive made it a tough environment.
