Hi all,
Durango Boy and I spec'd out a pretty kickin' system for my C-3 and i wired it all up over the weekend and it ran great for a few minutes and then cut out for 3 or 4 seconds only to turn itself back on. The display on the Kenwood radio went dead when it shut down so I'm thinking bad ground? No blown fuses...
Can anyone tell me where they have their radio (particularly aftermarket) grounded at? I looked in my AIM and couldn't find a recommended location.

Did you use the conversion connection for the radio that Crutchfield sells or did you cut up your car harness?
You need constant power for the memory and front display of your radio. For that you could jump off your cigarette lighter.
When I installed my Alpine head unit, I grounded it off of the old wiring harness... and had no problems. I did have a weird restart problem for a while though due to a loose ground on the amp. The amp would sense the bad connection over bumps and shut off.

I have a Kenwood X591 HU. Mine is grounded directly to the negative terminal on the battery...in fact so is the power feed for the HU. I have a battery disconnect...I added post extenders to the battery to strap the HU on permanently, then topped it off with the disconnect. No issues with power or funky ground loop/radio noise.
Otherwise you can run a wire from the HU to a bare metal spot on the tranny tunnel. You may need a ground loop isolator on your RCA's if you get a hum or whine at different RPM's.
Running straight to the battery is not a bad idea but I woul dneed some extendors too. In the meantime I re-ran the ground to an existing one in the console and pull a perfectly grounded circuit with my multimeter now.
If only I had caught that the actual head unit I bought was refurbished instead of new. F-ing thing crapped out on me after 5 minutes so I sent it back.
