I have been cleaning up my wiring harness and I have a question.
I have a new MSD starter.
I know the Red wire connects to the same post as the battery
The yellow/coil wire gets cut and folded away
The purple/ ignition wire connects to the yellow connector.
There is no ground attached to the solenoid. There is a small black wire in the harness for the wiper and blower and it goes on 1 of the large starter mounting bolts or better yet 1 of the bellhousing bolts.

Thanks.
I was thinking maybe the bolt hole in the engine block.
What is the reason why it would be better in the bell hosing?
Just curious?

The hole in the block is for the starter brace and "large" ground cable, click on the link Avner put up and you can see it in the pic.
On earlier C3s the factory put the 14gauge small black ground on one of the 2 large starter mounting bolts but when a person would replace the starter very often because of the large electrical connector the ground would find its way back on the positive terminal of the starter solenoid that would create battery drain problems, wiper motor problems and blower motor problems so most of us put the small black ground on 1 of the bellhousing bolts so this doesnt happen in the future. I believe the factory in later C3s installed the ground on the bellhousing as KapsSA showed.
If your battery is behind the drivers seat there will be a ground cable from the battery to the transmission crossmember. Very important rule to follow is to make sure the connection is as good as possible. A good clean contact. At times the cause of cranking problems blamed on the starter or battery. ...
Doe the positive cable from the battery go on terminal (S) with the ignition switch red wire? I know terminal (R) is good because I never took those wires off! I also know that on my car the ( B) terminal gets the battery ground; because the black wire (about 14awg.) on it that was not removed; it's ground for the ammeter. The only things I removed were the 2 battery cables; plus, and minus. This car ran very well before I removed those wires from where they were connected; but I made a mistake and put the battery PLUS on that (B) terminal;and it burned the wiring tape off on the wire to the ammeter Ground; and several others; but the wires themselves are okay;I just need to re-tape them.
