Default 79 Project Update Thread

1. So I decided to tackle my A/C problems and I called someone to take a look. Turns out he owns a '77. The A/C held pressure and didn't leak so he will come back Tuesday (with his vette)when it's not raining and check the blower motor and relays. Also he found the tranny cable is a little loose so that needs to be fixed.

2. The car is going to get painted with a BC/CC system in Cyber Grey Metallic this summer. I have called numerous people and have gotten down to 2. I will look at their work and have a talk and see who I like more.

3. Tried to suction out the diff fluid with a fish tank pump that we don't use and I need to find a better removal technique

4. Found the vacuum leak, hose was just sitting there loose and I tightened it up and the lights work, but they don't go up and down with the engine off?

It's raining so work has stopped for today, I'll let you guys know what we ind with the A/C on Tuesday.

1. What's a tranny cable?

2. Sounds like a nice color

3. Fish tank pump won't do it, just get a manual pump.

4. You may still have a small leak. The lights will only work once or twice w/o the engine on, so if not at all right after you turn the car off you still have a leak.

1.He called it a tranny cable, It attaches to the carb and can be adjusted about an inch forward or back.
3. Yeah gotta get one this week.
4. It works once right after but not if it sits for a while, I'll look for more leaks later on, the lights work and for now I have bigger fish to fry.

I think the lights are now working fine based on what you said. Mine will go down after a turn the car off. I've never tried to raise them right after turning it off, so now I'll have to try it just for curiosity's sake.

If your lights are working (going up and down) when the car is running, your good. They will only work for a few seconds after the car is shut off.
Is that a 330hp/350cid engine? The valve covers look like mine.

Yes sir, it is indeed a 330/350. The lights work fine when the car is running.

Tomorrow the A/C guys and the painter are coming down so I'll be sure to give you guys an update on the situations.

Well Here's the news:

We pulled the a/c control panel and the thing was shot, then we saw there was no vacuum so we pulled the dash. The dash crumbled when it was pulled so I need a new dash pad. Here's the real horror, also why my windows and lights are messed up. The wires were cut vacuum hoses put in the wrong places, the dash was a mess! At least with the whole front of the interior gutted we saw no rust!
