not sure i left mine in but i'm finding that most of the wierd things that seem to be cemented in all have an e or c clip of some sort on them, and they suck to get out unless you have the proper pliers, have an 81 also, isn't it wierd how they did things way back then, impossible. good luck

If you open the door and look at the lock cylinder case you will see a hole and a brass retainer tumbler. If you push this downward the lock cylinder will pull out from the case. There is a good simpler instruction sheet here. It will work the same for cars with our without a key hole. If you have lost your key now this is a different subject and post again.

With out the key you are screwed. You will need to go to a locksmith and have him pick the lock open. Here are a few pics I posted a while back.

If you can’t get it apart after this, take the door off the hinge and send it to me. I’ll get it apart for you!

Mission accomplished!! Thanks to everyone for the responses! I did not have a key as this was a door that I bought on ebay just for the latch. With a combination of the two methods, I was able to get it apart and install in my car. I put my old tumbler in so that I now have a good latch and a key. Again, thanks. Darrel
