Default 1981 Electric door lock trouble

I have never had working electric door locks as long as I had my car, but I finally had some money to replace both door lock acuators so I decided to try and fix them. I found a wiring diagram for how the wires should go into the plug and followed it exactly (the wires were not attached previously). The switch for the driver's side works perfectly locking and unlocking both doors. The trouble starts at the passenger's switch, it will only lock the door and it will only effect the passenger's door. I replaced the passenger's switch, but the problem stayed the same. Any ideas as to where the problem might be?

Howdy,

I just redid my door locks also. The wiring harness that attaches to the lock switches is usually the culprit from all the reading I've done. They get corroded. In my case I replaced the harness and the switch on both sides and they starting working perfectly.

I had a similar problem. I didn't replace any actuators or switches, just the pigtails that connect to the back of the switch. Mine were all corroded and less than half of the wires had a good connection. I got mine from Zip

You have to order a different one for left and right sides.

Also, are the locks difficult to operate manually? Try oiling up everything to make sure things move freely.

I put new wires and terminals into switch so there is a good connection. I guess I will have to see if there is continuity between switches. The driver's side lock is sort of hard to operate manually, could you tell me what parts I should oil?

You may want to build a new harness and run it on the outside. This way you can try the locks and see if its working properly. Over the years I have seen a lot of gremlins get into wiring harnesses and screw them up.

Just a thought

Problem solved. I stupidly switched a wire with one of the grounds on the driver's side. I'm glad it only took me a few hours to figure out. lol
