I have headers and dual exhaust on my 76 L48. Unfortunately I can't tell you where they came from or what they cost because they were on the car when I got it.
I have flowtechs on mine. You can connect headers to your dual exhaust system but there will be modifications to be made. It's not hard but you can take the car to a muffler shop and they can do it for you. Depending on the make and model of headers, you might get by just cutting the exhaust and fitting a longer connector, I never had that much luck though.
If you decide to go with stainless headers I have a set that have never been on a car. Dont know the brand name but can take pics and post them and maybe somebody might recognize them.
I'll assume here your "dual exhaust" is either the origional Y- pipe configuration or you went pure dual exhaust from Corvette Central or some place like that. If either is the case, you should have 2" diameter exhaust pipe connections to the exhaust manifolds. This would include the heat riser / spacer on the passenger side.
This is what I had, and I bought a set of headers from McJacks Corvette. Not cheap though, but they bolt right on. No modifications. If you give them a call, they will answer any questions. Nice guys!
I have a picture of the right one under my corvette photos......take a look.
thanks for the pics. my 78 has true dual exhaust they were on the car when i bought it. The driver side manifold is broken and i thought I might put headers on it.
If your exhaust does not have the heat riser or spacer on it anymore, then these won't work. The right exhaust pipe would have been "extended" to fill the gap. But if it does, they will.
I have a 78 l 48 and i had a set of magnaflow set of headers and muffler put in and it fit perfect. No modifications done. Good sound and good performance. Im very satisfied.
I also have a set of Mc Jacks. My engine is in the shop getting tricked out so I haven't put the headers on yet. They look like an exact replacement for the original rams horn manifolds. Someone plrase tell me what the heat riser is for and is it necessary. I had true duls put on last year and the riser was left on.

The heat riser is a control valve between the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe on the right side that restricts the flow of exhaust causing it to flow back through the heat riser channel under the intake manifold. This was suppose to help in fuel evaporation and speed engine warm up.
No, you don't need it. Mine is gone. And my EDL-2101 had the riser channel block when I got it anyway. But you will have to replace it with a riser spacer. Got mine at Corvette Central.
Are you sure you still have the riser? And not just a spacer? It's easy to tell by looking to see if you have any linkage on the side of it. If you do, it's not hard to replace. You said your engine is at the shop. I'll take that as it's out of the car. That's perfect! Order a spacer, plus gaskets, and a blocking plate for the intake. Throw out the riser, replace with the spacer. Done!
