Default Two temp gauges?

Why would they include 2 temperature gauges in a center gauge cluster? They have an extra temp gauge where the clock is suppose to be. Just curious.

Ah so! That's one way to swap out a dead clock for something more useful.

For starters this guy has this listed wrong. 80-82 was the only year to have the oil temp gauge. (optional)

It will work on the 77-79 cars but you'll have to add the wires for the oil temp gauge and the sender.

I'm not sure how useful it is! I've never really cared about how hot my oil was! The clock was deleted from the cluster when you had the radio option that had the clock in it! I think it was a way to fill the hole personally!

IMHO

I want the oil temp gauge and am having one made to match the face of the 72 font. The oil temp is a good indicator of when the motor is really warm. You can have warm coolant but the oil is not. Also when driving the car real hard, like race track hard the oil temp is critical. For a street car it is not needed, nor is a clock IMO. I don't even wear a watch anymore.

Your right I should have been more specific!

I've never cared how hot my oil was in an 80-82 Corvette! In the cars we have built for the strip. . . Yes we do care!

You just don't see that many 80-82 cars with a useful need for this gauge and from a production standpoint it just seemed like a filler gauge!

Couldn't agree more. They had to stick something in there.
