rear end problems

i have a 1975 corvette and evrytime i drive it for 30 plus minutes and i stop then go forward the rear end makes a popping noise.. is this normal.. or how do i fix it..

Are you sure it's coming from the rear? Check to make sure your shims didn't fall out of the control arm first. This would cause a popping noise in the front of the car. If the popping noise occurs when you put your car in reverse then back to drive you should check the differential mount cushions and make sure they are intact.

Does it occur going straight or mostly when turning a corner? My 75 popped and clunked too after warm-up but usually when turning from a stop. A simple change of the rear end fluid, including 2 4oz bottles of GM posi additive cured this issue. FWIW.
