You didn't mention pulling the distributor or the carb, but definitely do that.

you might as well pull the hood and radiator(s) and associated support hardware. That way you can leave stuff like water pumps, and sometimes most of the accessories intact.

You didn't say if it had an auto or manual trans, either. IMO, it is just as easy (many times = easier!) to pull the engine/trans together as a unit on the C3s, especially if I'm doing it all alone. For that, one of the best danged tools I ever bought was an "engine load leveler" accessory. With it you have control of the angle the engine or engine/trans has as you pull or reinstall. Best $60 I spent in a while.

There are several places to get them, but this gives you an idea of what I'm talking about...

Generally, you'll see what does or does not have to come off. Eventually (do it enough times) and you'll know what you do or do not have to remove. Don't ponder it so much as to make it more difficult (in your mind) than it really is. Just doit! (and you'll figure it out just fine!)

check my website for pics of engine pull.

I have a 72 454. I took everything off the engine, removed the radiator and support, hood of course. I have manual and pulled engine and trans together. I'm not sure on automatices, but on manuals the transmission crossmember is welded in. I was able to pull engine/trans by myself using an engine leveler and hoist.
