Default Big Block Plug Wire Questions

So I bought some very nice Electric Unlimited braided cover plug wires for my 69 BBC 427. I thought they would look good with the other braided lines etc but I have 2 issues
1) I have an aftermarket HEI distributor with tach drive and the Electric Unlimited have distributor boots and terminals for a standard points dist.

2) I wasn't planning on chrome Ignition shielding so there is no place to connect the braided wiring grounding terminals on the distributor end.

Should I just buy a set of performance wires from Summit or should I figure out new boots and terminals for the Electric Unlimited set of wires and what should I do with the braided terminal grounding ends? I plan on going from the top with the wires, not under the headers.

Suggestions or anyone else dealt with this isuue?

since nothing looks stock under your hood I would order a set from summit. Unless you want to purchase the stock shield to cover the distributor. thats where the braid gets grounded. I don't think those wires would look good just tied together

I do have some SBC shielding, not sure what the differences are for the BBC shields.

I can tell you from experieince that you'll want to put some real good insulation over the boots on #1 and #3 plug wires. I'm running aluminized sleeves with a fiberglass sock over that. Even with 135* bends on the wires they still cook on the headers.

The reason for the braid was for radio noise anyway- back in the daze about all we had was AM. It does look cool, but a good set of MSD wires will do just as good.

I believe Accel or Taylor makes a braided plug wire for an HEI. Check with Summit, they should have them.

I see Accel has some new Cermaic wires. It looks like in 115 degree, 90 degree and straight. I'm thinking these in a 115 bend may be the ticket for heat.

I also see the Accel braided style which would work. I do have some fiberglass heat sleeves, but I am concerned about the #1 and # 3 as I can see there may be an issue.

I saw those too- I did a search for Jacobs Ceramic Boots and found them. I'm getting really tired of cooking plug boots- and it's a constant hassle. My next set is going to be those ceramic boot wires. But I do have to say, if they don't work any better than the MSD/Accel/Taylor/Delco stuff I've tried I'll light off like a Roman Candle. Especially at the price they get for a set.

I placed an order for the Ceramic Accel 9002C 115 degree on Amazon. They are out of stock, but $114.91 with free shipping. I have time before I need them so I'll wait for them to get back in stock.

There are also some Jacobs ceramic straight plugs on Ebay for $99.

Let me know how they work! It looks like you've got about the same clearance between your plugs and headers I do. Those 2-1/8 primary tubes are just way close to the plugs, and I refuse to dent the tubes that close to the head.

It will be a little while before I can test them other than for fit. Trying to get all the under hood stuff done before I glue the front clip on. I also don't want to dent where I don't have to.

Kind of an old thread...the grounding attaches to the brackets that the chrome shield connects to, so all you need are the brackets if you want to use the plug wires but don't want the shielding.

This is what they look like on a 1971 LS-5

There was an earlier tread on this and a couple guys had good luck useing the 90 deg. wires and dressing them up along the valve cover.
