this weekend task was to paint my natural finish summit headers...during the week i sourced for all the parts I would need for the task..VHT high heat paint flat silver, gaskets, etc...
some pics from all the process
start point
after sandblasting with my new home sandblaster hooked to a 12 gallon complressor
also blasted the bolts
after sandblast I wired brushed and cleaned them with some deoxidant and ready to paint
painted
break time with the kid...i let the paint dry
after paint was dry I installed them..had to fight agints them a little as the space is tight....
I then followed the curing process indicated in the can.
I hope then I can clean or do some touch up as I got some scratches and grease stain while putting them back on place..
I'm not sure if the flat silver really matches. You got an natural aluminum intake, alternator and valve covers, and a chrome air cleaner. Not to mention the glossiness and natural finish of the master cylinder. I think they would look really good powder coated.

ahhhh don't listen to foxy I think the improvement is GREAT compared to what it used to look like. 5 hrs work and you have a way better looking engine. jmho

thanks for the compliments..
here is a list of materials and cost of them here:
1 can of vht headers paint $15
2 cylinder head to header gasket $18 each (yeap this was the most expensive part of the job....and they are imported)
2 header to exhaust pipe gasket $3 each
40 lb of sand free
total on materials $57
Cost of doing this yourself and having the results you wanted "PRICELESS"

What was the curing process as listed on the can? How much run time do you have on the headers now and how it the paint holding up. Mine are currently off the car and now would be the perfect time to paint them up.
either you can bake them on the oven or in the car..I did mine on the car, instruction: run @ idle for 10 minutes, turno off engine let cool 20 minutes, then run 20 minutes, then let cool 20 minutes, then drive it normally for 30 more minutes and thats it.. I did that and parked it, so for now its still holding there. I will know after some more use how it went. I´ll let you know what turns out....
The oven process take more curing time as T are little lower than in the car...but can´t recall how many time was needed to do it...
And yes do it now, once they are in the space is tight there, and you don´t want to mess with the finish when reinstalling them....
I used the same brand and colour of header paint but haven't started the car yet to go throught the curing process. I hope it works out in the long run for both of us.
