Default dash lights wont turn off

alright guys this is a new one on me. my dash lights seem to be on all the time, ya dead battery.
some history, just bought the car 1.5 months ago and no dash lights. after removing the complete dash replacing some bulbs that tested bad and inspecting wiring i put in a fuse (ya it was missing). alarm went off so had to track down the relay behind seat for that (have no key) i disconected both relays in compartment.
what gives?

thanks in advance and
Doug

thanks for the reply. dash lights wired thru door switches? you tell me.
ya had a door ajar light on with key on but have taken care of that.
by the way curtisy lights work with doors fine. i do understand the door ajar is one switch/maybe alarm as well? and the curtisy lights are on the other set of switches/front/maybe alarm. dont know the alarm switch setup but plan on using the front curtisy light switch for my new keyless entry alarm.
am still confused.

thanks again for your reply but am still searching (scratching head).

Not sure what year your working on but there will be a small INST lamp fuse....remove it and see if the dash lights go out. If they dont go out check which side of the fuse holder has power and let us know.

ya am in denial over that possability. just got the dash back together ugh!
as far as dimmers will check soon, would that point to headlight switch fault? im thinking so.

any one know of a good source for a new switch and or advise. i noticed it has vacuum control on it as well. did not look to see if this can be seperated.

thanks all
feel free to chime in if any one has additional info.

Interesting..........that only leaves one possibility where the power input is coming from.

should maybe clarify
removing fuse results in no dash lights, no clock action and am pretty sure disables lighter and also curtisy lights no longer work.
the fuse is the breaking point but some were after that in the circuit constant power is tapped in from this fuse circuit.

on another note does any one know a correct way to disable the factory alarm. i disconected the relay behind seat but seams to intermitently work still. could be a capaciter discharging cause only seems to work shortly after battery connection with relay connected then discontected.

Then he said removing "the" fuse also stops the clock and courtesy lights...so now he's on the COURTESY light fuse.

thanks all. gotter done.
was as suspected after you all lead me to checking things to rule out. i really apreciate the help.
now this thread would be useless without revealing the solution so gotta tell...
it was back feeding thru a connection in the console. two connectors looked factory and made a perfect fit together but thru you alls information the key pointer was one wire was grey and one was orange. guess what the orange was constant hot from battery.

vaula, now you know one more thing to look for if you happen across this problem.
would however like to string up any one that would connect these wires in the first place.
ya, wasnt me remember bought the car missing this fuse, neglected to notice it let alone ask the seller why. duh..

thanks mucho mucho and have a great day, im off to put this interior back together.
