Default 77 Corvette L48/82 overheating

I am looking for some help. My dad and I rebuilt a 77 corvette that had an L48 in it, we put a Comp Cam with roller rockers in it, ported and polished the heads so that they matched an L82, an LT-1 Intake, Road Demon Carberator, New Aluminum radiator, and new pistons and connecting rods. We rebuilt the engine in 1998 and drive it maybe 1,000 miles a year or so. We put electric fans on it to try and keep it running cool. At that time we left the radiator shroud off. Now the electric fans have quit working and there is no shroud. If we run the car for five minutes ideling in the driveway it begins to overheat. If we were to put the regular fan on the car and get a shroud for it would it take care of the problem? It has always run a little warm but never in the red. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Can't you just fix or replace the electric fans???

That's what would be expected w/o a fan. Of course the right regular fan & shroud will take care of it assuming no other problems.
The 7 blade fan needs to be used esp. if A/C & there is a heavy duty clutch available.

You said fans If that is correct the chance that they are both out is well un-likley.
Your relay is more than likley shot. 12.99 at Advance 40 amp.youll need two.find the wires going to the fan hot them up (12 volts)if they run the problem is somewhere else.
The stock factory fan will need the shroud to work correctly (get the 7 blade) as mentioned in the other post.

The shroud is pretty much as must have.

Also you need the little spoiler under the front bumper. This helps divert air into the shroud/radiator.

As you probably know, these can get knocked off pretty easy from the parking curbs and such.

Yes, you need the stock fan and shroud or electric fan(s). You also need the front spoiler and all the foam to keep the front sealed so all the air has to go through the radiator.

Hello,
The spoiler underneath the car, and the foam on top of the radiator will help keep the car cool if it was being driven.

The OP said that the car overheats when idleing for 5 minutes in the driveway. So it is not beign driven to take advantage of the spoiler forceing air through the radioator.

He also said that the electric fans have stopped working.

For me he has some other issue that is causing the car to overheat so fast other than the electric fans being out and the car idleing for 5 minutes.

Almost certainly. Purchase the AIM and install the stock components, including the seals.

...and once again...

If it truely is "5 minutes", I would think there are more issues than just fan(s) not working, or shroud not being there.

Yea I agree My ride in the vett to get to work is 24 miles and my electric fan does not kick on till at least half way to work .I wonder if its really heating up in 5 minutes.heating up that quick makes me think there is very little water flow such as a colapsing hose or blocked channel in the waterpump (area).
