I've noticed that some 72, 350's (non LT-1) have a rubber oil fill cap and some have a metal tang oil fill cap. Can anyone enlighten me on which is the OEM one, or did Chevy have two styles that year?
All 72s with the base motor were push-in rubber plugs.
1970 was the metal twist-in cap.
Patrick is right.
I am pretty sure that optional engines for 1972 (and also all 1971 engines) also used the push in rubber oil cap. So, the aluminum LT-1 valve covers for these two years would not accept a twist on oil cap. Same thing with big blocks but I think the push in cap went until 1974 on big blocks.
I came across a pair of the 72's from an old friend who had them stashed in his attic for 20 years. These are the rubber oil plug type you are talking about.
