anyone know if any of the Catalog places sell a CD Player with 2 stems so no cutting of dash is required? I have cassette player in there now, but would really love a new CD player to crank up. I have a '79
I just bought a bezel from a wrecked Corvette. I got mine from Gary Gruhala (Gruhala Enterprises) and asked him for one that was already hacked up. It was pretty cheap. http://www.corvetteparts.zoomshare.com/
You could also look for a cassette player with an aux. in and just use an iPod/mp3 player.
thx everyoen for the replies.. guess it's why I can't find one! I hear you on the used Bezel or perhaps a Cassette player w/the aux in.
Though I would think cassette players since out of play now won't have a aux-in feature in front.
I put in a pioneer cd head...purchased a used bezel, some one tried to cut, so I cut to fit, cleaned it up and painted... looks good.
Got it for $20.00
several members on the forum said they liked this unit several said they did not .do a search see what you think .the bezel on a 1979 is not hard to cut nor is it hard to find replacement .unless you have a low mile perfect car imo i would cut the dash .
Tom,
This head unit is a KHE-300 (50W x 4). It does not have a cassette player that I agree is passe. My tunes (60 or so) are on an old IPod Shuffle coonected to a jack on the faceplate. I have a Nano but it is too difficult to operate when driving. Too many options and viewing the screen is a safety hazard. I do not have to carry around CDs with this setup.
But if you wish there is a CD-AUX input at the back. But you will have to find a place for the player. I wimped out and went with IPod.

Cutting through the plastic isn't hard, just take your time and use a sharp utility knife if you really want to cut up the original bezel. I did it to mine and someday I'll have to find an original from junk yard or ebay if I ever decided to take that part back to stock.

thanks
You have two choices:
1. Replace the bezel with one from MidAmerica, Zip, etc for a 1 DIN Height one for a modern Receiver with built in CD player. You can get the receiver/cd player from Crutchfields and also ask for the GM Adaptor cables for installation and speaker hook-up so you don't go cutting into your original harness. OR:
2. Look at the options provided by MidAmerica, Zip, Corvette Central and Corvette America for modern systems to fit into your original bezel, then again call Crutchfileds (if not provided with system) to get the adaptor cables.
I went for option number one and took out my original gage cluster/radio bezel and set it aside and bought the new one and a new radio receiver/cd player, updated the speakers and installed a speaker bridge in the back. I used Crutchfield for all the adaptor cables and preserved my original harness in the process.

If you are even thinking about getting another bezel, do it now. They will not be cheaper in the future, and they may be darn near impossible to locate.
