Default Media Blast Body?

Hi guys, I realize this may have been asked/answered, would anyone suggest media blasting the paint off the body? I know some prefer to sand or use chemicals. This is for a 69 coupe, nasty old blue paint, may be original or a crappy old repaint. You can still see the red oxide primer in the areas of cracking. Thanks, John

Have a safe and Happy upcoming 4th!

to bad you were not close to RI. I know a guy that uses backing powder. he can blast the paint off your car and not scratch the windows.

I was looking into getting mine done. I had people saying yes, I had people saying no.

After some careful thought I decided to play it safe and use a paint scraper and heat gun. I'm about half way through the job. Pays to use a gas mask as it's quite smelly once you get going.

I have two 68's...Razor bladed(very carefully) and sanded em both. Most believe that if it has enough force(media blasting of any sort) to remove paint, it can remove fiberglass. Chemical strippers are out completly for me...some claim they wont hurt the glass, but the fact that they can soak in and cause bubbling later isn't worth the chance. Plus I hate working with all that goopy ,stinky ,runny mess.

The late, great, Vic Watson, (of New Hudson, Mich) who passed away this past February, and painted many show winning and my 1956 Nat'l top flight Vette believed in media blasting. I believe he had my '56 blasted with ground walnut shells. The car looked terrific, and the paint he layed down lasted a good long time. I think it is how carefully the blaster does his or her thing.

Thanks guys....Appreciate all the advice. It seems to me the best thing to do , if you are going to do it (blast) is to look for someone with a lot of experience with fiberglass.

I think that's the key--experience. I had my 68 media blasted down to the red oxide primer. I then hand stripped the old primer.
