air pump

I took my air pump off, heard incresed performance, what will happen, or what does it do? It doesnt have anything to do with the vaccum that runs the hadlights, and wipers Etc.. ? btw 1980 vette

Increased performance? maybe detectable on a dyno, but certainly not just seat of the pants. no it doesnt have anything to do with any vacuum system, its purely an emissions device, provides oxygen to oxidize (burn) unburned and partially-burned fuel in the exhaust before its ejection from the tailpipe.

It will at record speed reduce the value of your car by about $500.

$1500 if its a bumper car.

Only if the rest of your car is all original and in showroom condition.

and in some states, you can get fined if you remove it and fail a state inspection.

The pump basically free-wheels so there will not be an increase in performance. It is not like an A/C compressor.

You may wish to think about emissions testing, both actual and visual.
