Default wiring help please

i just finished putting a 383 crate motor and tremech 5 speed in my 68 ...i have wired the car the way the wiring diagram stated that i recieved via this web page ..the car turns over and fires once..and dies ..is there a wiring genius out there i could call to go over the wiring ???..it has msd coil and dist ...here are the wires that go to the starer one from the battery.....one from a relay over by the alt and the fender wall those two hook to the main power to the starter.. one yellow ...one purple...and another wire from the fuse box ..those three go to the smaller contact on the starter ..and one black ground from blower motor to starter bolt ground ..the stater is a jegs brand and has only two wiring points on it ..if ther is someone that has any idea what i have done wrong or why it wont run i really could use the help ..my cell is 616-634-0182 if you would like to call...the motor is a blueprint brand and was run and dynoed before shipping so i know the timing is right ..thanks for you time and help...fran

if it fires it is getting spark, the wiring of the starter would not effect the spark. Just to be clear, from the time the car was test run to installation in your car, the plug wires and the distributor were never removed?
Are you sure its getting gas?
From what you have stated, you are getting spark...have you pulled a plug and cranked the engine to see if it fires?
If you have spark, then you don't have fuel.

thanks for the reply..yes its getting gas so much you can smell it ...its like when i turn the car over and it fires and i release the key it dies ...that is why i think its got something to do with the wiring ..i am not sure if going to the new type starter with only 2 wire contact points from the old chevy starter with 3 on the sollenoid makes a differance

that wire would be the the wire that goes to the + side of the coil right ..it was hot last time i checked ,,i will check it again ..jegs also says i should not need to use the yellow wire that went to the R on the solenoid..is that right ..i am just grabing at things right now ..the car started right up the way it is wired right now with the old motor ..i have not changed a thing on the way it was wired ,only went to a new type of starter with only 2 wiring points instead of the one with 3 points on the solenoid ...thanks for your help...fran

Yes
How many wires do you have on the pos term of the coil ?
What did you do with the yellow wire down at the starter ?

Just reread your OP the small term on the starter should only have a purple wire on it. If the yellow is on at the starter and at the coil the engine will fire but will be killed by the yellow when you release the key.
What is the other wire you say is on this terminal that comes from the fuse box ?

Not familiar with the MSD wiring but if you will post a pic of the diagram I'm sure I could figure it out.
Make sure you dont have the yellow on the coil or starter, remove the tach ground from the neg side of the coil, make sure you have 12 volts on pos side of coil,-try to start

I think the fuse box wire should be on the batt term at the starter
